Dante Kierstead is a drummer and percussionist based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Known for his creative energy, reliability, and collaborative spirit, Dante brings dynamic grooves and versatility to every project—on stage and in the studio.
A passionate and dedicated musician, he fuses traditional technique with forward-thinking rhythms to create a style that’s both deeply rooted and refreshingly new. With a strong work ethic and a love for collaboration, Dante is always striving for growth and new musical experiences.

Dante Kierstead

Experience, Education & Memberships
Dante Kierstead is an in-demand drummer actively performing across Halifax’s vibrant music scene. He plays regularly with Noel Morgan & The Salty Groove and Hobo Aquarium, and can often be found at The Economy Shoe Shop’s Saturday night sessions. Dante is also the go-to drummer for Fiona Clancey and Alvaro, joining their lineups whenever they hit the stage. In addition to his core projects, he frequently supports artists such as Madeline, Jah’Mila, and Asha Prince as a trusted backup and fill-in drummer.
Celebrated for blending traditional drumming techniques with innovative rhythms, Dante brings versatility and reliability to every project. His extensive experience spans jazz bands, pipe bands, and school ensembles, as well as a wide range of live settings.
Dante has performed with many Halifax Regional Arts ensembles and was part of the pit band for ‘High School Musical.’ He has also played with the Intermediate Symphony Orchestra through the Halifax Music Co-Op. Additionally, he has appeared with the Dartmouth Choral Society and the JMS Big Band. He was also a cast member of the Advent Show.
Dante has further honed his skills by participating in prestigious drum camps with Long & McQuade and the Schulich School of Music. He is an active member of Music Nova Scotia, the Jazz Education Network, and the Percussive Arts Society.
Beyond performing, Dante has volunteered at major events such as the Juno Awards, Halifax Jazz Festival, NS Music Week, and Rankin’s Winter Warmers.
He recently completed his Music Arts Diploma at NSCC Ivany Campus and will continue his studies at Dalhousie University (BMus) beginning in Fall 2025.
